About this item
A very interesting period conversion of an "oversized" or Ubergrosse 1939 EKII to a Ritterkreuz.
The original eye ring has been removed, turned 90º and then professionally resoldered on so that it is of the same orientation as a Knights Cross. The quality of the work is extremely good.
The frame of the Ubergrosse is unmarked 900 grade silver with the core being of black finished iron. Some minor patina to the frame and slight wear to the core. The manufacturer is believed to be Frank & Reif of Stuttgart.
Fitted to the eye ring is a standard 800 stamped Ritterkreuz loop. Through the loop is a piece of original RK ribbon that has been modified for wear by neatly folding and sewing the ends. These show evidence of once having had ties or elastic attached.
Scarce Cross.
