About this item
Ranking alongside Juncker in terms of quality and collector desirability, this Luftwaffe Pilots Badge by GWL, (Grebüder Wegerhoff of Lüdenscheid) is constructed in heavy nickel silver and is complete with its original case of issue.
The Badge itself is an absolute delight, and completely without damage or significant wear. The frosting to the oval wreath is superb, the edges polished, the eagle retaining most of its chemically darkened finish. On the reverse, the wreath again displays excellent frosting with the two rivets counter sunk, typical of the GWL quality finish. At the centre of the eagle is the GWL logo. The fixing pin remains straight with the noted GWL hinge block and claw shaped closure hook free from damage.
The presentation case is in blue leatherette, embossed on the lid ”Luftwaffe Flugzeugführer-Abzeichen” the lining in card with a blue flock finish and a heavy flocked paper in the lid. Both hinge and release button work perfectly and are in steel.
A truly excellent example and one I believe would be difficult to upgrade.
