About this item
Awarded to Sister Maureen Jean Alexandra Gallaher of the Queens Alexandra Imperial Military Nursing Service. Commissioned on the 15th February 1946. Confirmation of commission noted in London Gazette. Promoted to Senior Staff nurse confirmed 27th December 1946 in London Gazette. Around this time she saw service in Palestine during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War being awarded the GSM 1945-48 campaign medal with Clasp “Palestine 1945-48, ( SISTER M.J.A. GALAHER. Q.A.I.M.N.S.). She was later promoted to the position of Sister confirmed 25th February 1949. On the 1st August 1950 mentioned in London Gazette now with the rank of Lieutenant Maureen Jean Alexandra resigns her commission 8th July 1950. Later confirmation of her marriage that year to David Arthur Bailey in August 1950, Further research notes she passed away on the 8th November 1962. (with copy London Gazettes and copy papers).
