About this item
An original British made civilian work shirt dating from the 1940s.
This style of wool shirt was popular during the mid-Century period as they were both warm and practical. The military made shirts similar in style as this at the end of the Second World War although this example is not military issue. It is made from a green coloured wool flannel and features a half placket front which was the prevalent style in the first half of the 20th Century before full button shirts started to gain popularity. The front fastens with plastic buttons as do the cuffs. The collar is a typical 1940s 'spearpoint' shape.
Inside the collar of the shirt is a simple size label which features a red '4' embroidered on a white field. This style of size label is typical of work shirts made during this period. The size of '15' has also been added to the inside of the neckband although this is incorrect.
The shrit will suit around a 34" - 36" chest and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 20"
Inside arm - 20 1/2"
Outside arm - 22 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 3/4"
Length at rear -
Collar - 15 1/2"
The shirt is in worn condition with some marks etc as illustrated in the pictures. Overall it is still totally wearable with no serious flaws or damage but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A nice original 1940s British made work shirt with a great collar shape.
