    About this item

    An excellent collection of Post War uniform and miniature medals belonging to a former wartime member of the Long range Desert Group and SAS, Brigadier M Matthews who latterly served with the Royal Military Police.

    Service history: 2nd Lt 60 Rifles 19 Dec 1942, Lt LRDG/SAS 1944, Bays 1947, Major RMP 1957, Lt Col 1967 RMP, Col 1972 RMP, Brigadier 1977 RMP, 1977-80 Provost Marshall.  

    This extensive collection comprises:

    Brigadier’s Service Dress Cap by Herbert Johnson of Bond Street. Dark blue with red hat band and peak with rank decoration in golden bullion wire, Queens Crown Brigadier / Colonel rank Cap Badge. Very good lightly used condition with the inside of the sweatband named to him. Excellent condition. Complete with the original Herbert Johnson hat box with some distress.

    Red RMP issue Beret in excellent condition, size 7 with Queens Crown Brigadier’s Cap Badge.

    Blue Mess Jacket by Henry Poole & Co. Saville Row named to Major Matthews on the tailor’s label . Red stand collar with RMP collar badges, the collar trimmed with golden braid, shoulder straps with removable Brigadier rank insignia. Lined in a red quilted rayon. Excellent condition

    NATO issue ribbed Woolen Pullover (Jersey Man’s Heavy Olive Drab) Size 6 1978 dated with SAS wings attached to the right sleeve. One moth hole to the waistband.

    NATO issue No6 Dress Jacket, in lightweight Khaki material. Staybright buttons and SAS wings attached to the right sleeve and medal ribbons on the left breast. Very good condition.

    His swing mounted Miniature Medal Group:  CBE, 39/45 Star, Italy Star, Defence medal, War medal, GSM with Palestine 45-48 bar, AGS with Kenya bar, GSM with Northern Ireland bar, Queens 1977 Jubilee medal.  All swing mounted and in very good condition.
