Original 1940 Dated French Army M38 Bourgeon Jacket - Size 38

A fantastic original example of the Armee Francaise M1938 Bourgeon work jacket which is clearly dated 1940 and has an incredible fade and patina. 

This pattern of jacket was used by the French military during the inter-war period as well as in the early part of the Second World War. It formed part of a two piece set with matching trousers and was used as workwear for various chores. 

This example is made from a khaki green coloured cotton duck canvas material as was popular with the French military for workwear during this period. It is heavily faded out from exposure to sunlight which has given it a fantastic patina and lacing to the sleeves. It features a single breasted front which fastens with large buttons, a large collar which is typical of French clothing from this period and epaulettes would have been fitted but have been removed, along with the waist belt. This is not uncommon to find with these jackets. Pockets are located to skirt and large flaps cover a welt opening. Each cuff features a strap detail which is held in place with a single button. 

Inside the jacket the original stamps are still present including the maker's stamp which has a clear 1940 date and the size stamp which reads '2'.

The jacket is cut wide across the chest to allow for freedom of movement. It will suit around a 38" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures - 

Chest - 22 1/2"
Inside arm - 17 1/2"
Outside arm - 24"
Shoulders - 16 1/2"
Length at rear - 29 1/2"

The jacket is in good condition with only some signs of wear and age. There is some staining from wear and obviously lots of fading etc. Overall the jacket has an amazing look to it and remains totally wearable. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a pre-worn vintage jacket which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
