Original 1940s Swedish Military Leather Overcoat - Size 38

An original 1940s Swedish military leather coat which is a size 1.

This is a distinctive example of Swedish military outerwear from the Second World War period. Swedish military leather coats of this type were designed to provide durable protection in cold conditions, combining a substantial leather exterior with a warm wool lining and a large fur collar.

The coat is constructed from dark brown, almost black coloured leather and features a double-breasted front which fastens with buttons. The front has a distinctive curved yoke detail across the chest, whilst two flapped pockets are fitted to the lower front. The shoulders feature epaulettes and the sleeves have adjustable cuffs secured by buttons. A large, dark brown fur collar provides additional warmth and gives the coat its characteristic appearance. The rear of the coat features a half belt which is a nice period detail. 

The interior is lined with grey-coloured blanket wool, providing a substantial layer of insulation. The original size label is still present and is marked '1'.

The coat is a size 1 and will suit approximately a 38" chest. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 23"
Inside arm - 19"
Outside arm - 27 3/4"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"
Length at rear - 37 1/2"

The coat is in good vintage condition overall. The leather displays signs of age and use but retains an attractive appearance. There is notable loss of fur to the rear of the collar, as illustrated in the pictures. Please take time to study these carefully before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A very nice original example of 1940s Swedish military leather clothing. The substantial leather construction, distinctive double-breasted design, grey blanket-wool lining and large fur collar make this a particularly appealing piece of Scandinavian military outerwear.
