About this item
An original New Zealand made battledress blouse which is dated 1941 and is in good condition.
These New Zealand made jackets are closely modelled on the first pattern of battledress produced in Great Britain from 1938 until the middle of 1940. Like all Commonwealth made battledress items, these jackets have their own unique features. The hue of the serge wool is slightly different to that of British made examples and the buttons and lining material are also different. There is also a tab at the neck rather than the hook and eye fastening employed on the British version.
Inside the jacket the original markings are still present and are typical of those found on New Zealand made battledress. The size of 8 is present as is the 1941 date and the maker's name of 'John Mack'.
When laid flat the jacket measures -
Chest - 22"
Waist - 17"
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 24 1/2"
Shoulders - 17 1/2'
Length at back - 21 1/2"
The jacket is in excellent condition overall and appears to be unworn. There are no serious flaws or damage and the wool serge is in good condition and has a fresh look to it. The metal of the buttons and buckle shows signs of corrosion but this could potentially be remedied with careful cleaning. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A nice example of this hard to find commonwealth pattern of jacket.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
