Original 1945 Dated British Army Jungle Shirt - Size 3

An original British Army 1944 Pattern Jungle Green Shirt which is clearly dated 1945 and is a size 14.5 x 33. 

This pattern of uniform was introduced in early 1945 for issue in the jungle. It was part of a whole new uniform which was based on the recommendations of the Lethbridge Mission which toured the Far East in late 1943 and early 1944. The design has some of the classic British Military features from this period as well as some interesting new additions. It also takes a lot of influence from American military clothing of the period such as the gas flap. The sizing is also in the US format as aer the interior stencils.

The shirt is made from a green coloured cotton drill. It features a full button front and has a gas flap feature behind this. All of the buttons are black coloured rubber examples. The collar features two buttons which again is designed to allow for different kinds of fit. The shoulders feature reinforced sections which are often referred to as 'rifle' patches. Epaulettes are also located to each shoulder which again fasten with a button. 

The rear of the shirt features four loops which can have the belt loops of the trousers fastened through them. This is another example of the anti mosquito design which was so prevalent with British military uniforms during this period. 

Inside the shirt the original label is still present and bears the title of 'Jacket, Jungle. Lightweight or G.S'. Below this is the size of 3 14.5x33, the maker's name of W. A. Smith & Co Bolenium Ltd' the 1945 date and the War Department broad arrow marking. 

The shirt is in good condition with signs of wear and use. It has clearly been issued and worn but does not have any serious flaws or damage, save for a hole to the right breast pocket as illustrated. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have some small flaws commensurate with age.
