Original 1949 Dated British Army Denim Battledress - Size 10

An original British Army Denim Battledress Blouse dated 1949 which is a rare large size No. 10.

Introduced at the beginning of the Second World War as a replacement for the earlier fatigues issued in the Great War and inter-war periods, the design closely followed the serge Battledress introduced in 1940 but was made from denim and had removable buttons. This is a second pattern or 'austerity' version which does not feature the pleated pockets of the first pattern jacket.

The jacket features a variety of colours of revolving shank buttons which are held on with period brass split rings to the reverse. The waist fastens with a steel buckle which is held onto the jacket with green plastic buttons. There is evidence of where a lance corporal stripe has previously been fitted to the sleeve.

Inside the jacket the original label is still present and states the manufacturer as 'LAMO', which which is a European factory. The size is marked as 10 which is designed to fit a 41-43" chest. The 1949 date is also present as is the War Department broad arrow marking.  

When laid flat the jacket measures - 

Chest - 25"
Waist - 18" (adjustable)
Inside arm - 19 1/2"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 19"
Length - 20"

The jacket is in good condition with some signs of wear and laundering. It displays very well but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have other small issues commensurate with age. 

Altogether a nice example of a Denim Battledress Blouse which is a hard to find large size.
