    About this item

An original 1941 Pattern Auxiliary Territorial Service greatcoat in a size No. 2.

This pattern of coat was introduced in 1941 and saw widespread issue with the ATS throughout the rest of the Second World War. Officially designated 'Greatcoats A.T.S. 1941 Pattern', the coat It is made from the standard khaki coloured blanket serge wool and is fitted with green coloured plastic economy General Service buttons which were often encountered during this period.

Inside the coat the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It states the size as 2 which is intended to fit up to a height of 5' 2" and a 36" to 37" bust. The maker's name of 'S. Corman Ltd' is present as is the 1943 date (potentially spurious) and the War Department broad arrow marking. Three separate women have marked their serial number to the interior which may offer the prospect of further research.

When laid flat the coat measures -

    Chest - 18"
    Inside arm - 16 1/4"
    Outside arm - 23"
    Shoulders - 16"
    Length at back - 39 1/2"

The coat is in good condition and displays well. It is still totally wearable with no serious flaws or damage. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A rare and hard to find piece of women's uniform from the Second World War.
