Original 1952 Dated USAF M1947 Parka + Liner - Size Medium

An original United States Air Force M1947 Parka dating from the early 1950s.

This style of parka was introduced following the Second World War and saw use during the early Cold War period, including during the Korean War. The M1947 was a transitional design between the earlier mountain parkas and the later M1951, and examples with original liner and clear labels are comparatively scarce today.

The outer of the coat is made from heavy olive drab coloured cotton which is a hard wearing and durable fabric. The parka features a full hood, button and metal zip front closure, four front pockets, internal waist belt and button adjustable cuffs. The generous cut allows the coat to be worn over other layers as intended by the U.S. Army.

The interior retains its original removable pile liner, made from thick wool pile for cold weather insulation. The liner is complete and secured with press studs.

The original label is present and clearly legible inside the lower right pocket and bears the size of Medium along with the maker's name of 'Mario G. Mirabelli & Co Ltd'. The dates of 1947, 1951 and 1952 are all present which dates this coat to around 1952. 

The coat is a medium size which will suit around a 42" chest and when laid flat it measures -

Chest – 25"
Inside arm – 19"
Outside arm – 26 1/2""
Shoulders – 19 1/2"
Length – 41"

The coat is in very clean condition for its age, showing minimal signs of wear consistent with careful use. The structure of the coat and liner is sound, and the piece is fully wearable. There is a small nick to the bottom of the skirt and there is some limited staining. Please study the images carefully and bear in mind that this is a vintage military item which may show minor age-related imperfections.
