    Item details

An original 1960 pattern combat smock in well used condition.

This pattern of smock was introduced in the early 1960s and replaced the earlier Sateen combat smock. It is the for-runner to the famous 1968 pattern combat smock issued throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Notable features of this earlier smock is the flat green colour and the stitched collar which has been covered with a piece of green cotton.

The smock is made from a dark olive green coloured cotton sateen and features patch pockets to the chest and lower patch pockets which have an invert pleat to allow them to expand. Long sleeves end in a buttoning barrel cuff whilst the elbow features a double layer reinforcement. The left breast pocket features a stitched section to allow a pen to be held. The zipper is a brass example marked 'FLASH'.

Inside the jacket is a large poachers style pocket to the bottom which fastens with a single button which has been removed, as is often the case. Both the central and the bottom drawstring is still present as is the original label. The label is well worn leaving none of the details legible.

When laid flat the jacket measures -

    Chest - 24 1/2"
    Inside arm - 19"
    Outside arm - 24 1/2"
    Shoulders - 20"
    Length - 31"

The smock is in worn condition with plenty of signs of wear and use. It is in wearable condition but has a number of flaws including a tear along the bottom seam, a hole to the rear of the left shoulder and numerous patches and period repairs. These issues have been reflected in the price but please study the pictures before purchasing as this is a vintage item.

A well worn original example with some real character!
