About this item
An original Indian Army denison smock which dates from the 1970s.
This pattern of smock was produced for the Indian Army during the 1970s and clearly takes its design influence from the British Denison Smock which was first issued to airborne troops during the Second World War. The cut and design of the smock are almost identical with four plain patch pockets to the front, a half zip, wool shirting lining to the collar, and tab adjusters to the bottom - All details copied directly from the british design. The smock also features epaulettes, knitted cuffs and a set of press studs to the front which allows the fishtail to be fastened between the wearer's legs. This has been removed as is often found with Denison smocks.
The smock is made from a heavy cotton material which has had the camouflage material screen printed on to it. This pattern is referred to as 'DPM' or 'Disruptive Pattern Material' although it bears no connection with the British camouflage pattern of the same name. It is also referred to as 'Indian leaf' or 'Palm Frond' and features a pale, khaki coloured field with dominant brown and green camouflage pattern. This is a brush stroke style but notably different and more 'spikey' in shape, hence the palm name it is often given.
The smock is a small to medium size and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 30"
Inside arm - 26"
Outside arm - 24 3/4"
Shoulders - 21 1/2"
Length at rear - 30"
The smock is in good condition with only limited signs of wear and use. There are a couple of small snags to the bottom left pocket which are illustrated in picture 5 but overall it displays very well and is totally wearable. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A very good example of this Denison variation!
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
