Original Early 1970s British Army Orange R & I Windproof Smock - Size Medium

An original British Army 'Smock Windproof Orange 'R & I Training' Smock dating from the early 1970s which is in very good condition. 

The contract number on the label dates this smock to having been made in the early 1970s. The design is very similar to the Windproof Cadet Smock and was made by a manufacturer who also made cadet smocks. The smock is a one piece garment made from a tightly woven, bright orange coloured cotton. It features a hood, lower patch pockets and a large chest pocket which fastens with velcro. The cuffs feature an integral elasticated storm cuff and the opening at the neck fastens with an 'Clix' branded zipper. The original drawstring is still present to the waist and mouth of the hood. There is also a strap inside the smock which can be fastened between the wearer's legs to aid in windy conditions. 

Inside the jacket the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Smock Windproof Resource and Initiative Training' along with the size of Medium and the manufacturer's name of 'James Smith & Co (Derby) Ltd' is also present. The A/78 contract number is below this and dates the smock to the early 1970s. The full details of the label are as below -

The smock will suit a medium build and when laid flat measures - 

Chest - 25"
Inside arm - 21"
Outside arm - 25"
Shoulders - 20"
Length - 32"  

The smock is in excellent, wearable condition as can be seen in the pictures. It shows only limited signs of wear and use with some slight fading to the front of the shoulders and some light staining from use. Overall it is still a very fresh example but please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn, vintage item which has some small flaws commensurate with age. 

A striking piece of British military clothing with a great label and some great details.
