About this item
An original Royal Air Force Officer's Greatcoat which dates from the Second World War period.
This is the standard pattern of greatcoat worn by officers in the RAF from the pre-war period, all the way throughout the Second World War. It was replaced in the immediate post-war years with a new pattern. The coat is made from a heavy RAF blue coloured crombie cloth and features a full waist belt with brass buckle, a 3 button cuff with brass RAF buttons with more RAF buttons which fasten the front. Removable epaulettes are fitted to each shoulder and bear two bands of rank braid each which denotes the rank of Flight Lieutenant. Post-war greatcoats have fixed epaulettes, rather than this removable style.
The interior of the coat is partially lined with rayon and there is a single interior pocket.
The coat will suit someone of around a 36" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat measures -
Chest - 21"
Inside arm - 19 1/2"
Outside arm - 26 1/2"
Length - 46"
Shoulders - 18"
The condition of the coat is good for its age. It displays well with only limited signs of wear and age. There is one small hole to the front as illustrated in picture 6 although this is on noticable under close scrutiny. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item.
Overall a nice original wartime Greatcoat which would be ideal for a reenactor or collector.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
