Original 1981/82 Dated RAF MK3 Cold Weather Flying Jacket

An original British made RAF MKIII Cold Weather Flying Jacket which was made in 1981 or 1982.

This pattern of jacket was introduced into service with the RAF in the 1960s and stayed in issue for decades. It is made from a ventile cotton which was popular with the RAF for many years due to its very good waterproof and windproof qualities. 'NZ' marked nickel plated metal zippers are fitted throughout and the cuffs fasten with velcro. A pen pocket is located to the upper left sleeve and between the outer layer and the lining is a mess liner which is intended to keep the wearer at a good temperature. Originally there would have been a hood concealed inside the jacket which pulls out through the back of the neck and a large fishtail inside the jacket but these have been removed.

The original label is still present to the interior and is bright and legible. It bears the title 'Suit Aircrew Cold Weather MK3 Jacket' along with the War Department broad arrow marking and the date of 1981/82. The size is marked as 4 which is intended to fit up to a height of 171cm and a chest of between 96-106cm. 

The jacket is a medium size which is designed to fit a 37" - 41" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures - 

Chest - 26 1/2"
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 23 1/4"
Shoulders - 19 3/4"
Length - 21 1/2"

The jacket is in worn condition but is still very wearable. There are no serious flaws or issues, just plenty of signs of wear which give the jacket a great look. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age. 

A nice original early 1980s example which are now becoming harder to find.
