About this item
A good 1943 dated RAF Service Dress Tunic and Trousers to Wing Commander George Hurst Randle 16083.
The Tunic was tailored for him in Canada and retains the Toronto tailor’s label. Standard RAF regulation pattern with four pockets, waistbelt and four button front closure. All buttons are British made.
Each sleeve has the rank stripes of his rank, the left breast with a pair of RAF Pilot’s wings, perhaps taken from an earlier uniform and reapplied. Chest size approximately 38”. Overall condition is very good with some loose stitching to the lining.
The Trousers are RAF issue and carry a WD stamp “N” for 1943 and again were perhaps worn with an earlier uniform resulting in a difference in the shade. Very good condition with just one small moth hole that I can find.
Wing Commander Randle joined the RAF in 1921 and retired in 1953 as an Air Commodore. After Cranwell he served briefly as a Pilot before being sent to Cambridge after which he served as a staff officer and in various senior positions.
