About this item
Burma Miniature Medal 1824-26. With correct Steel Ring for suspension. A very High Quality Miniature.
Old contemporary Silver Miniature. In extremely good condition on old ribbon. A very early issued Miniature for an early Campaign, RARE.
Issued to Officers and men in the campaign for the subjugation of Burma. This was the first of the "Honourable East India Campaign" Medals.
The war in AVA was ravaged by the continuous destructive actions of the Burmese into Sylhat & Cachar. This led to force being organised and led by Brigadier Sir Archibald Campbell with the intention to capture Rangoon and blockade the Irrawaddy River, Whilst another Column under Brigadier Morrison advanced through "The Aracan". Arakan was one of the first Indianised kingdoms in Southeast Asia.
The length of the War was mainly caused by the difficult nature of the country, rain, fog and flooding. This made it difficult to maintain supplies in such an environment. There was also stout resistance by the Burmese.
