Egypt Medal 1882-89. Clasp 'The Nile 1884-85'. 448. PTE. D. Wilby. 2/ESSEX .R. Awarded to 448 Private David Wilby of the Essex Regiment. Born in the Parish of Debenham near the Town of Eye in the County of Suffolk. Joined up in Aldershot on the 15th February 1882 at the age of 19 years. Notes in his service papers indicate the prior to joining he was serving with the local Suffolk Militia. 136 days after joining the army his regiment was sent to Gibraltar in July 1882. In February 1884 he and the regiment was sent to Egypt. There he served 3 years then in February 1887 he sailed to Malta. Pte David Wilby returned home in January 1890 In that time he served with the Essex Regiment. ( with copy Attestation papers and medal roll)
