For sale is WW1 French Military Medal Decoration Awarded By The Legion of Honour.
The Military Medal is a French decoration, instituted on January 22, 1852 by Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte to reward soldiers or assimilated, non-officers. It is administered by the Chancellery of the Legion of Honour. It can only be granted for military service and a minimum of eight years of campaign. It can also be granted to the Maréchaux de France and the generals, Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor, who exercised command-in-chief in wartime before the enemy or rendered exceptional services to National Defence. Military medal 1870 Description: The medal is a silver laurel wreath that surrounds a gold medallion with the effigy of the Republic, surrounded by a blue enamel circle where the words "French Republic" are inscribed. On the reverse, the medal bears in the center of the gold medallion, surrounded by a blue circle, the motto: "Value and Discipline". The laurel leaves and buds are bound by two intertwined ribbons at the top and bottom. This is in good condition but missing the ribbon.
