About this item
Indian General Service 1854. Bar Waziristan 1894-5, Bhim Sain. No.1 (Kohat) Mtn. By. This is a rather interesting medal awarded in the fight against the Waziris tribesmen. This bar was authorized on the 1st September 1895 due to continual attacks by the Waziris, on the Afghan Frontier Delimitation Party. In which it was commanded by Colonel A.H.Turner. The casualties suffered by the tribesmen's side was heavy caused by the parties escort. Though to solve the issue it was not possible to deal with them effectively until more relief troops arrived. The Waziristan Field Force, commanded by Lieutenant- General Sir William Lockhart was formed on the 2nd December 1894, but disbanded 30th March 1895. The No.1 (Kohat) Mountain Battery was part a much bigger force of troops composed within the Waziristan Delimitation Escort, operating between 22nd October 1894 to 13th March 1895 .
