    About this item

A very pleasing and untouched George V WW1 1912 pattern cavalry officers sword.

This recently found example bears no makers or retailers marking, but judging by the style of etching, it is likely produced by the Sheffield cutlery trade, who augmented sword production during WW1.  The style of scabbard and frog may indicate it was carried by a cavalry officer of the Indian Army.

The Shagreen grip is entirely complete, and in good condition, bound with its original the twistwire.

The large bowl guard is well decorated, having a slight dent to one side. The steel is free from pitting, and could be polished bright if desired. The interior is discoloured, and would benefit from a clean. The distinctive chequered pommel with wreath decoration is also in good condition.

The 35 inch blade decorated with beautiful clear floral etching, with George V crowned cypher, and vacant escutcheons. Some light rust, light pitting, dark staining and old dirt/grease.

Housed in its field service scabbard and complete with original sword frog. It's an excellent fit, generally good condition with some minor scuffs but no signs of repair.

These Great War examples are getting harder to come across, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire an original, untouched example, which once cleaned would grace any collection.
