    For sale is a WW2 Irish Emergency 1939-46 Medal & Silver Hallmarked Ulster Home Guard Cigarette Case. 

      The cigarette case is engraved on the front with the captains initials N.W.B.    The cigarette case is engraved inside and it states the following:    “To Capt N W Brabner from the officers, NCO’s and Men of D and E Coy 1st Armagh Bn U.H.G, April 1944.”   About 1st Armagh Battalion, Ulster Home Guard:   1st Armagh Battalion, Ulster Home Guard had their headquarters in Lurgan and was affiliated to the Royal Ulster Constabulary whose cap badge they wore. The Battalion was formed in May 1940 by the redesignation of the Local Defence Volunteer company and was made up of platoons men in reserved occupations and those over or under age to serve in the armed forces. They wore an army style khaki uniform and were equipped with a few rifles.   This Irish Emergency 1939-46 Medal with 1939-1946 Medal Bar which means it has 2 years service per medal bar. This medal is Complete with top bar and pin attached ready for wear.   The Emergency Service Medal (Irish: An Bonn Seirbhíse Éigeandála) is a military decoration of the Republic of Ireland that was awarded to servicemen who served during The Emergency from 1939 to 1946.   The medal is made of bronze, on the front there is an image of a woman with a dog beside her, along the top the words "Re na Práinne" are inscribed in Irish. On the back there is an olive branch with "1939" to one side of it, and "1946" to the other. At the top there are words inscribed in Irish, the words are different across the 11 variants, with each being the Irish name of the organisation or group the individual who received the medal is a member of. The example Medal shown reads "An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil", which was the Irish name for the Local Security Forces.   These will be sent via royal mail special delivery and dispatched within two working days.
