116) Very Nice Original WW2 British Army MKIII Marching Compass 1940 & Padded Case 1940. The compass is in good order. It retains much original finish to the outside but does show loss to the opening tab where it has rubbed when going in and out of the case. The inside is excellent and clean but is totally empty of liquid. It has not evaporated but must have been emptied long ago. We have had these before mint unissued and boxed and they have been empty of damping fluid. Easy to refill although no idea what the seals are like after over 86 years. It works well and points north as it should. The base is very nicely maker marked and dated 1940. The fold up prism is good just dusty and the thumb ring is in place. All glass is good and clear. The case is good but dirty. The closure stud looks tatty as is the material around it but works well and seems firmly in place. The internal padding is good. It is again nicely maker marked and dated 1940.
