Original 1944 Dated British Army 'Commando' Bergen

A good example of the second pattern Commando Bergen which is dated 1944.

The bag section of this item is made from dark green waterproof canvas as opposed to the first pattern which was made from a light tan coloured material. It has been well used and washed out / sun bleached meaning that it looks a lighter colour which is almost closer to the earlier tan pattern. Like the first pattern bergens, this example has the two webbing straps which run around the circumference of the bag towards the top, which can just be seen below the main flap. The other small extra straps have all been removed. 

Inside the Bergen is dated 1944 and also bears a War Department broad arrow marking.  The date is hard to see in the pictures but is slightly clearer in person. A brass zip is present to the inner flap which features a rubberised reverse which shows some signs of age with numerous broken teeth etc. 

The bergen comes complete with its original black painted metal carry frame which is attached to webbing shoulder straps. The straps feature tabs to which utility pouches can be added. All the leatherwork on the frame appears to be intact and the frame bears a wartime date which can just be seen in picture 8.

The condition of the Bergen is good as can be seen in the photographs. It has clearly seen plenty of use but overall appears to be sound. There is a repair to one of the shoulder straps which is illustrated in picture 6. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age. 

All in all a fairly good example of a Commando Bergen from 1944. It would look good as part of any WW2 display.
