About this item
An original 1945 dated British Army MK1 Skeleton Assault Jerkin which is in excellent condition.
This pattern of vest was introduced during the Second World War and is often referred to as the Bren Vest or Light Assault Vest. They were introduced as a lightweight alternative to the larger Battle Jerkin which saw use on DDay. It is made from the same brown coloured cotton canvas material and features two large pockets to the front which are intended to carry Bren Light Machine Gun magazines. These fasten with rope and wooden toggles. The front of the vest fastens with webbing straps and brass twig buckles and the various parts of the garment are attached to each other with string which allows it to be adjusted to size. There is also a detail to the side of the left magazine pocket which allows for a No.4 bayonet scabbard to be fitted.
The original markings are still present to the interior including maker's initials and the 1945 date. There is also a War Department inspectors stamp and a purple issue date of February 1945.
The jerkin is in excellent condition and does not appear to have been issued. It displays extremely well but please bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small issues commensurate with age.
A nice original example with a good clear date.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
