About this item

An original Royal Air Force Parachute Bag dating from the Second World War which belonged to Sub-Lieutenant (A) (P) Harry PETERSON, RNVR who was killed in action on the 16th of July 1945 whilst flying hellcats in the Far East with 896 Squadron.

These bags were used throughout the Second World War and are now synonymous with Aircrew, particularly Bomber Command, during this period. This example however has Fleet Air Arm history.

The bag is made from a heavy khaki coloured canvas and features two reinforcing straps which run the entire circumference of the bag, becoming handles at the top. The bag fastens with a 'Tefas' branded brass zipper as were sometimes used on this pattern of bag. The bag features flaps to the interior and bears the Air Ministry AM and crown marking is still partly visible to the outside. The original owner has marked his name to the top as 'H. Peterson' and the Squadron number is also present. There is also an Air Inspection Department stamp to the interior of the bag.

The bag is in good condition with some signs of wear and use which are to be expected with a bag of this vintage. The zipper works as it should and overall the bag displays very well and is totally usable. There is a hole as illustrated. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which has some flaws commensurate with age.

Anice bag which displays well and has wartime history.

This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
