About this item
A rare original British Army shell dressing bag which was made in 1940.
This pattern of bag was produced during the Great War as well as in the very early stages of WW2. It is notably different from the more common Second World War examples as it is made of rubberised canvas rather than cotton webbing. It also features leather straps and metal single prong buckles to fasten the front flap. The front features a white circle with a red cross in the centre and the words 'SHELL DRESSING' are marked to the front which appears to have been obliterated. The underside of the flap bears the maker's marking and date which reads 'H.W. Ltd' along with the 1940 date. The War Department broad arrow is also present.
The bag is in good condition with some signs of wear and age. One of the leather straps is broken as illustrated in the pictures. Please study these before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have other small issues commensurate with age.
A rare example of this hard to find pattern of bag.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
