About this item
Perhaps the most iconic of Trench fighting weapons, the Robbins of Dudley Push Dagger was not a fighting knife as such but designed for stabbing from behind.
Now rare find, this example is in overall very good condition, the blade full length and without damage as is the grip with its finger guard.
The Grip is a heavy cast alloy pistol-style shaped for comfortable handling and fitted with the guard shaped so that three fingers are positioned below blade and one, the index finger, is positioned above.
The blade, running at a right angle from grip, projects from the middle of the clenched fist. It is a short, flattened oval section, double-edged blade tapering to narrow spear point. Two narrow fullers, which merge towards tip, are formed on each face.
The Scabbard is tan leather comprising a flat belt loop attached to the edge of which is the blade sleeve at right angles to the strap. A thin leather securing strap fixes to a brass fastener to hold the dagger securely. Condition is very good with some stitching replaced over the years.
A private purchase item for officers, Robbins of Dudley produced these now rare Push Daggers between 1897 and 1920.
