  This leaflet is in Greek and German, but translates to:   German to English:    “NOTICE TO ALL GERMAN TROOP COMMANDERS IN GREECE    GERMAN SOLDIERS! Deliver this important announcement to your squad commander!    AS LS experienced officers, all Wehrmacht commanders in Greece are fully aware that the course which the war has taken on Germany's eastern and western borders negates any influence which they or their troops might have on a possible temporary postponement of victory of the United Nations could have exercised.    The troop commanders are also well aware that attempting a retreat through Yugoslavia would mean provoking annihilation by the Russian armies or the National Liberation Army of Yugoslavia, which were linking up behind the German divisions. The transport difficulties caused by the planned destruction of all communication routes would, in the event of such a daring undertaking, make them easy and sure prey for these armed forces.    Since the troops cut off in Greece do not have the slightest prospect of any relief from home, all Wehrmacht commanders should be reminded that exactly the same situation is dealt with in the following paragraph from Reiber, Der Dienstzettel im Heere:    Exceptional cases that make fighting seem hopeless, and when risking life is no longer of any use to the fatherland, can justify imprisonment".    Under these circumstances, the troop commanders should be informed that there are British liaison officers throughout Greece, authorized by the Supreme Allied Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean. are to carry out the surrender of German troops in accordance with the recognized provisions of the laws of war.    The troop commanders should therefore, at the earliest opportunity, take the necessary steps to get in touch with the nearest British liaison officer.    GERMAN SOLDIERS Deliver this important announcement to your troop commander!”   Note at bottom green to English:   “THE GERMAN TROOPS IN GREECE ARE CLOSE TO SURRENDER.
