About this item
An exceptionally nice pair of Australian made Mk111a Goggles.
Showing signs of light service use only these are amongst the nicest I have seen. The blackened brass frames are free from notable damage, the celluloid lenses clear and without damage. As usual the rubber padding has hardened but the black velvet covering shows no signs of wear. Both brass stops on the hinge are in place as are the vent trumpets.
The strap arrangement is excellent, the springs and covers are perfect as is the leather strap which is marked with the manufacturer's stamp P.J.K. over M, Mk111a.
During WW2, Australia operated numerous flying training schools under the Empire Air Training Scheme (EATS) where these might have been issued, with some 37,000 graduating as pilots and joining aircrew from Australia and numerous other nations in operation in all theatres including Europe, North Africa and the Far East.
The last two pictures show the Australian Ace Peter Turnbull in North Africa and a student at an EATS, both wearing MK111a goggles
