Cased Luftwaffe Pilot's Badge in Tombak by B&N L
Once in my own collection this beautiful early Tombak Luftwaffe Pilot’s Badge by Berg & Nolte, Lüdenscheid (“B&N L") is complete with its original presentation case.
The badge is constructed with a silver plated Tombak wreath of oak and laurel leaves with a good degree of the original frosting remaining in the recesses, particularly of the laurel leaves. This process was achieved during the final stages of manufacture when the badges received a light polishing.
The Tombak eagle retains much of the chemically treated darkening and is held firmly in place by its two rivets, the reverse showing the maker’s stamp B&L L.
Barrel hinge, pin and catch are completely without damage, as is the rest of the badge.
The case is a nice early example and of course absolutely correct for the badge, the base velvet covered and domed, the lid lined in a satin type material.
An extremely nice example of what I have always thought of as one the most attractive of those produced by the various makers.
