    About this item

A very nice WW1 Australian Private Purchase Cap for an enlisted man. Following very closely the style of the British 1905 Pattern Cap this example is of typical Australian construction. The body of the cap is manufactured from tightly woven khaki “felt” type serge very much associated with WW1 Australian uniforms, whilst the cap's buttons are leather, this again a typical Australian feature.

The thin chin strap and small peak are in turn classic WW1 styling. The only feature on this cap that is not so commonplace is the larger size enlisted man’s Australian forces cap badge applied. Most usually on Australian enlisted men’s cap the smaller sized cap badge is used. The large cap badge  however is most definitely original to it as it has been applied whilst the cap was manufactured, this discernible as the badges attachment points are beneath the cap’s lining.    Presumably since this was a private purchase item the original soldier was able to specifically request the larger size cap badge be applied, the request no doubt born of pride in his unit.     The cap is in very good serviced used condition overall with no moth.   A lovely item.
