Awarded to Private David Lomas of the 2/Kings Own Scottish Borderers later West Yorkshire Regiment. Egypt Medal (undated), Clasp Gemaizah 1888 (3082 PTE. D. LOMAS. 2/K.O.SCO: BORD:) Queen South Africa. Clasps Tugela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmth, Transvaal and Laing’s Neck. (2974 BND: SEJT. D. LOMAS. W. YORK: REGT.), Army Long Service & Good Conduct (V.R.) 3rd issue. (2974 SGT. OF BAND. D.LOMAS W. YORKs REGT.) & Khedive’s Star, un-dated. Born in Fermoy, Co, Cork in Ireland. His attestation papers he joined as a boy soldier with the 6th Brigade in Fermoy on the 23rd October 1880, aged 15 years, 1 month. He was posted to the 2nd, 25th Regiment as a Boy Soldier, He was noted with rank of Bandsman in October 1883. He served overseas in Gibralter serving between February and June 1886 later service in the Egypt Campaign between July and December 1888. Later serving in East Sudan in December 1888. Later Egypt between January 1889 to January 1890. Then further overseas posting to the East Indies between January 1890 to November 1895. During that period he was promoted to Private (Bandsman) he re-engaged in the 2nd Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment on the 10th July 1891 and appointed Band Corporal in September 1896 and later promoted to Band Sergeant in June 1897. Then he was sent to South Africa in November 1899 until May 1901 during that period served in the Boar War campaign.. He was awarded the Army Long Service & Good Conduct medal 1899. He was later discharged at Woolwich on the 10th August 1901. He was discharged as medically unfit for further service. All four medals with clasps confirmed in service record showing his medal entitlement. (with copy Service Papers Index Card and Ancestry Overview).
