About this item
A very attractive example of a Luftwaffe Officer’s Sonderklasse Cap by the prestigious maker Robert Lubstein (ErEl)
Constructed in a field grade grey / blue wool, the Cap remains completely free from moth or other damage, but with a line in the wool brim which appears to be a flaw in the cloth. Piped to both the upper and lower edges with a twisted aluminium mesh cord, the hat band is in ribbed black mohair or rayon, again free from moth and again piped along the lower edge with the aluminium mesh cord.
The insignia is hand embroidered in silver bullion thread, the winged cockade with the classis ErEl ventilated centre to the roundel.
The Cap Cord is very good and secured each side by a pebbled aluminium button, the cord resting on a late war style black Vulkanfibre peak or visor with a green cross hatched underside. The visor is very good and remains securely attached to the cap.
Inside, the sweatband has an only just discernible ErEl marking and is ventilated at the forehead. There is slight loss to the stitching. The lining is a good clean golden coloured rayon with the diamond shaped sweat shield in place with the ErEl maker’s details now barely visible.
