About this item
An original 1915 dated British Army 'R.E. Shovel 5lbs' as used throughout the Great War.
This pattern of shovel was introduced long before the Great War and would have been produced in large numbers during the conflict. The shovel features a distinctive shovel head which has a flat top and rounded bottom. It also features a gooseneck and the shaft and handle are made of wood.
The maker's name of 'WOLF' is stamped into the metal of the shaft and the 1915 date is found below this.
The shovel is in reasonable condition for its age and displays well. There is pitting to the metal work and there are a couple of holes to the shovel head. The wooden shaft is in good condition although the handle has suffered from woodworm. It also appears to have been removed and refitted upside down.
A nice original First World War item which would make a good addition to any collection or display.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
