    About this item

An original 1918 dated British Army 1908 pattern intrenching tool head as used throughout the Great War.

This pattern of intrenching tool head was used in conjunction with a wooden helve and was carried in the 1908 pattern intrenching tool cover through WW1 and up until 1923 when it was made obsolete. It was re-introduced in 1941 and then saw use throughout the Second World War.

The helve is metal and appears to have been restored judging by the pitting and the deep black paint finish. The maker's marking is still present and the 1918 date is clear.

An original Great War item which would make a good addition to a collection.
