About this item
A very good and really rather rare example of Czech vz.20 Helmet reissued to the Wehrmacht
Vz is an abbreviation of the Czech and Slovak term “vzor” meaning model. Immediately after the end of the First World War, the Czechoslovakians used leftover Austro-Hungarian M17 helmets. Starting in 1919 they began production of the vz.20. This helmet was basically a slightly modified version of the Austro-Hungarian M17 German model helmet. The main visual difference was that the vz.20 were initially fitted with a decorative comb like the type used on French Adrian models. In 1934, however, the combs were removed, although the vz.20 designation was retained
After the German takeover of Czechoslovakia, many of the vz.20 helmets were removed from storage and refurbished for use by the German Wehrmacht. This is just such an example.
Overall condition is very good, the only notable point being the partial loss of the long length of the chinstrap, the roller buckle end remaining. The shell is without damage and close inspection reveals the welded holes left after the removal of the comb. Both Wehrmacht Heer decals are at least 85% intact. A steel lot number is visible on the outside top and another partially discernible stamping remains on the inside flare. No size stamping is evident, but I believe the vz.20 only exists in a size 66 shell.
The liner is the German M34 and in very good condition, the leather soft but missing the drawstring.
A true collectors piece.
