About this item
Although research suggests that BMB produced some rimless helmets for use by the home front during WW11, Mk1 Brodies were also refurbished and upgraded during the early part of the war. These helmets were officially designated as the MK1*. I have little doubt that this National Fire Service Helmet is one of these early Brodie conversions and as such rather a scarce piece, close inspection also suggesting the remains of the WW1 grit finish under the olive green NFS paint.
The shell is without significant damage and as far as I see without stamps although these may have been lost under the WW11 paint. The decal shows some loss but is readily discernible.
Inside, the liner is very good and remains supple and free from damage, the fibre bands marked size 7, TTC and 1939. The chinstrap is also very good.
A rare addition to a Home Front collection
