About this item
A nice British Mk II Brodie steel helmet shell, configured for the Civil Defence Home Front during World War II. This particular example features some of the original red matte scheme with white hand-painted “54” marking on the front.
Early-war regulations designated solid red helmets for Group Headquarters staff, Controllers, and local Control Room units. The number “54” denotes the specific civil defence sector or group headquarters district it served.
Does not have an interior liner but still maintains the original chin strap that does have some age related wear to it. Some of the original red paint has faded over time due to age of the item and there is a faint number 2 marked on the front as well, possibly due to it being repurposed. Overall is a very nice piece to add to a collection and holds an interesting background story.
