    About this item

For sale is an WW2 Ocean Daily News Queen Mary Single Sheet Newspaper Printed On Saturday 7th Of August 1943.

These single sheet newspapers were only printed on one sheet of paper, and could be bought by soldiers & sailors on board HMS Queen Mary Troopship to keep them updated on the news of the world. This was issued to the Editorial office; ships orderly room, main deck.    There are two nice wartime reminders printed on this newspaper “Carry your lifeboat always” and “observe black out times”.    Some of the stories in this issue include titles “ new Russian offensive on Kharkov front red Army breaks through German defences retakes, 150 towns and villages”, “ Berlin, to be partially evacuated”, “the writing on the wall”, “ Italys precarious position”, “advance continues despite fierce axis resistance”, “Japanese routed as air base falls to Americans”.    Queen Mary sailed on her maiden voyage on 27 May 1936 and won the Blue Riband that August; she lost the title to SS Normandie in 1937 and recaptured it in 1938, holding it until 1952, when it was taken by the new SS United States. With the outbreak of World War II, she was converted into a troopship and ferried Allied soldiers during the conflict.   This is in good condition and is a rare piece of history.    This will be sent via Royal Mail 1st class signed for and dispatched within two working days.
