About this item
An excellent example of a wartime produced RAF Officer’s Cap, Service Dress, by Burberrys.
Conforming to the classic wartime pattern and tailored in blue grey Barathea wool, the Cap is completely free from damage and shows evidence of light service use only by one, CL Magnus whose name appears beneath the Burberrys label in the crown.
The top panel is perfectly circular, the seam without piping, the sides each with a pair of black enamelled circular vents. A black mohair band remains in place with a very good example of the officer’s cap badge, below which sits a typically thin leather chinstrap resting on a green backed peak of the specified 5.7cms depth.
Inside, a band of hessian or leather provides stiffness to the body while the area behind the badge is supported by what feels to be hessian, all concealed by the lining. A removable stiffener is in place in the brim. The leather sweatband is marked Real Roan Leather while a removeable sweat protector sits above a padded swirl patterned lining to the crown.
A very difficult Cap to upgrade.
