About this item
An attractive WWII period British military-style folding campaign chair, constructed with a folding timber frame, blackened steel cross-bracing and original heavy khaki canvas seat and backrest.
This practical pattern of folding chair was designed to be easily transported and set up in the field, making it particularly suitable for use in officers’ quarters, tented camps, headquarters and other temporary military accommodation.
The chair features a substantial hardwood folding frame with pivoted joints and steel bracing to the lower section. The heavy cotton duck/canvas seat and back are secured to the frame with rows of period metal tacks.
The canvas has developed considerable character through age and use, retaining its faded khaki/green colouring together with staining, spotting and general service wear. The timber similarly shows knocks and marks associated with use, while the metal components retain an aged surface with oxidation.
No clearly legible military markings or wartime date have currently been identified, so although the construction and materials are consistent with a period military campaign chair, we cannot attribute it conclusively to a particular unit or individual.
A wonderfully atmospheric piece of WWII-era campaign furniture, ideal for a military collection, officer's display, wartime room setting or living-history collection.
ConditionGood original used condition for its age. The canvas shows staining, fading, spotting and general wear, while the timber and metalwork have corresponding age-related marks and oxidation. Please study the photographs carefully as these form an important part of the description.
Period: Circa 1939–1945
Country: Great Britain
