1937 White Leather Fling Suit - Unworn

Dating from the late 1930’s when flying clothing was clearly more important as a fashion item than it had to be practical, this superb one piece white leather Flying Suit was purchased by a Mrs Fyfe in June 1937 from Druce & Co in Baker Street, and clearly never worn.

Perhaps better remembered as a furniture retailer, Druce & Co also had a fashion department, and this vintage Flying Suit is accompanied by its original cardboard box of retail with the label showing it was purchased by Mrs. Fyfe on 28th June 1937. A second label is marked “White Leather Flying Suit”. The box is in relic condition, but complete.

The Suit itself is remarkable, and in near excellent unworn condition. The leather remains soft and without damage, the lining an attractive wool tartan pattern.

Closure is by a single front zip with a further seven buttons securing a wind flap. There is a waistbelt held in place by two leather belt loops, one of which has become unstitched at the top and two waist pockets closed by diagonal zips, the pulls marked R.V.B. A further zip closed opening is provided at each hip to allow access to any clothing worn underneath the Suit. The zips appear without damaged but perhaps have not been operated for many years, if ever, and it would be wise to use  candle wax to free them off.

The collar is Stand up and closed by a single leather strap with eyelets, and a claw buckle.

Each cuff and ankle have a leather adjusting strap with a pair of friction buckles, those on the cuffs still wrapped in tissue paper.

A beautiful time capsule piece from the golden age of pre war aviation.
