About this item
A very scarce original example of an MI9 “Escape Knife” complete with all blades, showing very little signs of use and in overall very good damage free condition.
Without stampings of an any kind the Knife comprises, wire cutters, lock breaker, three hacksaw blades and a penknife sized blade, all still blued and with strong springs.
In addition, there is a flat head screwdriver formed as part of the body, a lock for the wire cutters and a lanyard ring.
In his book “MI9” by M.R.D. Foot he describes this tool on page 108 as “Clayton Hutton’s masterpiece”. The intention was to send the knife into POW camps secreted in parcels or in such things as the handle of a cricket bat. Not surprisingly the deception was quickly discovered and presumably the scheme was dropped.
