About this item
This is a Standard Bearer's Gorget (Ringkragen für Fahnenträger) used by the NSKOV (Nationalsozialistische Kriegsopferversorgung), the National Socialist War Victims' Care Organization in Germany (1933–1945).
Key Features & Design
Insignia: Features a gold-toned starburst backing with the central NSKOV insignia consisting of an Iron Cross, a central swastika, a vertical sword, and surrounding oak leaves.
Shape: Heart-shaped/shield-like metal crescent gorget.
Bosses: Two solid brass/gilt decorative raised bosses at the top corners.
Suspension: Suspended via a linked nickel metal chain around the neck.
Historical Context
During formal parades and political rallies, standard (flag) bearers wore gorgets to denote their duty and rank within civil, political, and paramilitary organizations. The NSKOV was established in 1934 to incorporate veterans, war-disabled soldiers, and war widows into the state apparatus.
Because standard bearer gorgets were issued only to designated flag-bearers rather than general personnel, authentic examples are relatively scarce historical artifacts today.
