About this item
An original 1918 dated United States Army Officer's M1912 greatcoat which is in stunning condition.
This pattern of greatcoat was introduced into service in the years which immediately preceded the Great War. It is made from a very high quality khaki green coloured wool material and features a double breasted front which fastens with large vegetable ivory buttons. Slash pockets are located to the hips and officer's rank braid is located to the lower portion of each sleeve. The coat features a large stand and fall collar which can be fastened with a large metal hook and eye. There is a half belt to the rear which fastens with the same buttons as are used for the front.
The interior of the coat is fully lined in rayon and a metal hanging chain is located to the neck. There are two interior pockets and below one of these is the original maker's label. It bears the maker's name of 'Scott & Company, Boston' in typical period graphics. There is another label inside the pocket which bears the street address of 340 Washington Street, Boston as well as the original owners name and the date of March 18th 1918.
The coat will suit around a 36" - 38" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 20 1/2"
Inside arm - 16 1/2"
Outside arms - 24"
Shoulders - 17 1/2"
Length at rear - 45 1/2"
The coat is in fantastic condition with only very limited signs of wear and age. There are no serious flaws or damage and overall it displays extremely well and would be very hard to improve. Considering that it is over 100 years old it is an incredibly clean coat which is in beautiful condition.
A stunning original Great War dated overcoat which is in fantastic condition.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
