About this item
A curious original British Army double breasted jacket which is made in khaki serge wool.
The origins of this jacket are currently unclear. It could have been made as an apprentice piece or similar. It is cut in a typical 1930s manner and features a double breasted 2x6 fastening to the front. The shape of the peaked lapel is typical of the 1930s and they both feature button holes. The jacket is made from the same serge wool as was used for the battledress uniform and in keeping with the period the jacket is cut short in the body and features no rear vent. An angled welt pocket is located to the chest and flapped pockets are located to the skirt. All the buttonholes are hand stitched which is another nice feature.
The interior of the jacket is lined in a khaki tan coloured cotton drill and is fully canvassed. It is a very well made jacket and is heavy and well built. The sleeve lining is a striped material as is often used and the is a single interior pocket which features a simple pointed flap. This fastens with a single vegetable ivory (plastic) button which is chocolate brown coloured - The same type encountered on mid-war battledress.
The jacket will suit around a 36" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 19 1/2"
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 27"
Shoulders - 18"
Length at rear - 30 1/2"
The jacket is in excellent condition with only very limited signs of wear and age. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing however and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have some flaws commensurate with age.
A very interesting jacket which is cut in a typically 1930s manner.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
