About this item
A stunning original British Army Officer's peaked cap which dates from the 1930s and appears to be in unworn condition.
This original cap is an early shape which was common in the inter-war period and very beginning of the Second World War. It is made from a khaki green coloured barathea wool and features a D-shaped peak and a stiff crown which can be worn in two positions - up or down. This is done by the means of a hinge fitted to the inside of the cap which is a typical inter-war trait. A leather chin strap is fitted to the front via two General Service buttons. It is a very narrow example which is typical of hats from the Great War and is sometimes encountered in the inter-war period.
The interior of the cap features a quilted lining, typical of those found on early caps. The original maker's label is still present and features the maker's name of 'W. Foster & Son Ltd' along with the address of Waingate & Castle Hill, Sheffield, 3. There is also a size label which is typical of the period and states the size as 7 1/8.
The cap is in good overall condition and displays well as can be seen in the pictures. It has no signs of wear or use although there are a few moth grazes which are illustrated in the pictures. Overall it has a great look to it but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.
This is a really nice original cap which would be ideal for someone interested in the inter-war period or BEF!
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
